Perhaps because art deals with mediation and meaning, and with the
rapid development (and implementation) of technology in our age, one
tends to ask for the justification of change.
Some would opine that the Confucian system of ethics is highly
resistant to change. But given the Chinese "world-view" of change being
inevitable (I-Ching's line on "Heaven changes, the gentleman forces
himself not to rest." -- direct translation), might Confucius have had
his eye on restricting the pace of change than forestalling change
itself.
